2 months!

Today marks two months old for the girls. It’s been a trying day, with Emerie pretty fussy and staying awake! We dressed the girls in matching outfits for a quick photo op that Emerie did not appreciate but Reagan and Harper didn’t seem to mind. And the rest of the day was spent at home, with a visit from cousin Tyler and Aunt Janelle, so we were able to get a few things done around the house and fold some laundry while they visited. The girls are almost asleep, so we are off to bed (nap?) before the next feed.

Evening Prep

Since we are a pumping and bottle family, evening prep is key. We had this little grey craft caddy laying around in the house and put it to use! In the evening we do two major things to help use survive the night.

1. All of the bottles are washed and sanitized if needed, and set to dry after the 8/9pm feeding.

2. We then prep enough bottles to get through the night and the first morning feeding. We leave the bottles semi-disassembled so they can keep drying. Once they are used we move them over to the other side of the caddy.

The rest of our bottles are left to dry through the night which will get us through the afternoon.

Rinse and repeat!

3v1

Today I had a trial run spending the afternoon alone with the girls and doing feedings solo. Craig ran errands and had a lunch date and I attempted to see how survivable my future two months will be. As it turns out, not surprisingly, I pretty much accomplished nothing other than changing, feeding, and soothing the girls and pumping in between.

They just seem to know when Dad leaves the house, because at least one always wakes up. The first feeding took me almost 2 hours, with propping Harper (who ate like a champ), partially propping Reagan, and feeding Emerie in my lap. That two hours took a bit longer because I picked out some cute outfits, and put these fantastic leg warmers I ordered on Etsy awhile back on each of them. I now know that while Harper weighs the most, Reagan has the biggest thighs!

All the girls seemed to like the warmers, and they kept those little legs nice and cozy.

During the feed I also put them on the play mat for the first time to try to entertain them while I fed their sisters. Reagan loved it, and Emerie seemed pretty enthusiastic as well. Harper, on the other hand, was not really impressed, although she didn’t cry.

All in all, solo feeding the trips is going to be quite a daunting task multiple times a day once Craig is back at work, but survivable. I will definitely need to do bottle prep and have snacks and water readily available in the nursery, since I barely left the room the whole afternoon. But it’ll be good bonding time with the girls and they will get faster on feeds as they get older. Baby steps.

Afternoon Adventures

Most of our day is consumed with preparing for the next feeding, with a few minute mainline some coffee and eat the food in our fridge not questioning how old it is… hahaha Just kidding, Becca and I have a good schedule down and we are able to get in a brunch and dinner normally.

Today we picked out new flooring for our main level, it should be installed in the next couple of weeks. Becca picked out a new desk for her work and we both managed to get a little work done. Becca took on the evening feeding alone while I folded laundry, washed the dishes and bottles, and made dinner.

Feeding and Efficiency

Some of you may ask how we feed all of them at once… with maximum efficiency! Haha

You can feed two at once with a some extra dexterity in your fingers.

You also purp two babies at once, it is a great arm workout since there’s no time to go to the gym, like I’d go anyway… haha

We will post in detail how we do feedings on the tricks and tips page as it can be a resource for multiples families.

In the meantime, stay flexible my friends!
