Snotfest & WALKING!!

While we continue through the current snotfest, the girls are quickly picking up new skills and traits. I would say the parents are as well…I’ve accepted the fact that I am constantly covered in snot and used as a human tissue (I should add that to my resume lol. I’m pretty I just wipe the snot on my pants and shirts now instead of getting up to grab another tissue every time a tiny tot’s nose drips.

A couple nights ago everyone slept ALL NIGHT in their cribs…for the first time in 2019!! In fact, I didn’t wake up once the whole night to a shriek or a cry and it was oddly refreshing.

Sadly, that success only lasted one night. We had three grumpy babies by 11:30 PM the next night, with Emerie ending up with Craig, Harper with me, and Reagan eventually settled down in her crib and went back to sleep, after quite a fight!

What I’ve found is lack of sleep is relatively survivable, as long as the first 2-3 hours in the night result in straight, uninterrupted sleep.  Last night was one of those nights, where I slept solidly from about 9 PM to 11:30, and probably back to sleep with Miss Harper by about 1:30, and then getting up at the typical 4:30 AM wake up time. That first chunk of sleep really helps me stay awake for the day!

As we continue in the second week of the cold, the girls are off and on grumpy snot factories. Their most hated thing in life right now is the tissue, or anything that might go near those little noses. For the most part I believe we are out of the previous teething rage, so moods are improved from that. Everyone has four top teeth through the gums, and are much less slobbery. You will notice that the girls aren’t wearing their amber necklaces in pictures now; not because teething lulled a bit, but because they try to rip them off each other (not themselves tho) and cause a great deal of angst with each other. We may not be using them anymore, at least until they understand not to pull on them.

I hope you are enjoying the lovely photo of Reagan, proudly displaying her snotty nose before I brought the rage to wipe it off…

I realized this weekend that I passed the 13 month milestone without posting anything! Now that we are over a year, I’m not sure people still do monthly photos. But for your enjoyment, here is a nice photo of the girls in their matching Minnie Mouse pjs.

A few new cute things for you…such as Reagan dancing to a video. She is definitely the dancer of the group so far!

One of my coworkers gave me a play “puppy walker” and we tried it out with the girls earlier this week during Emerie’s therapy session. As predicted, the only one that figured out how to walk with it (figured it out a little too well) was Harper, who discovered how fun it was to push forward while she walked! Reagan and Emerie were more than happy to sit on it while we pushed it forward, but not walk behind it.  Not sure I am quite ready for walkers yet…a few more months of crawling works for me!

Within two days the girls are all attempting to walk with it! Reagan is the least excited about it, and Harper is the wing leader. Emerie is really good at climbing into it and now is walking forward too.

Harper took four steps on Saturday, teetered and balanced herself, and took two more. No I did not get it on video, was way too in the moment for that. And after only two practice tries… a little TOO quick!

I predict by the end of May we will have walkers. Everyone’s coordination is improving so rapidly and they definitely watch and feed off each other as they learn new things. I cannot handle how mature Emerie looks in this photo!!

A few other fun new things include Harper raspberrying my leg (and thinking it was hilarious), Emerie gaining great coordination with moveable toys and doing things on her own, and Reagan is a speed crawler! Everyone enjoyed the gorgeous sun this weekend and we set up the new Regalo playpen. It’s light and useful at both the park and in the front yard as we start spring cleaning the garage. I also figured out it folds up perfectly to fit across the stroller bars so I can single handedly bring it with me somewhere and let the girls out to play.

Toddlerhood is Looming

All the signs are pointing to the arrival of toddlerhood X 3! One week post birthday and the girls are interacting more and giggling, exploring…and biting?! At lunch the other day Reagan stuck her hand into Emerie’s mouth, in between noodles, and Emerie chomped down. Luckily Em only has two bottom teeth and top teeth bumps. Of course, Reagan started crying and once she calmed down, she put that hand right back and did it again!! Apparently it will take some more teeth for her to stop testing that idea out…

Playing with their toys and behaving!

Two more days until the sixth developmental leap completes and it is taking forever! For example, Harper is in a new phase of shaking her rattles and then banging them on her siblings’ heads. A good amount of tears have fallen in the past few days over this. She doesn’t yet recognize that her actions cause baby rage, and continues to test out the rattle’s functionality as we are hollering to stop.

Checking out the new picnic basket from their birthday

Another example…Emerie decided to test out her teeth skills by chomping down on my shoulder when I didn’t immediately placate her on something. Tiny girl gave me a mini bruise on my shoulder with only two bottom teeth!

Last night at bedtime we put the girls down with their binkies like usual, turned on the nightlight and white noise machine, and walked out of the room. After pausing for a moment, you could hear big giggles coming from their room. Harper and Reagan were just laughing, in the dark, at each other through the crib slats. It was pretty cute and the first time we’ve noticed them doing it. Emerie was already asleep and missed the giggles this time.

Binkie time

It only lasted about 10 minutes. I captured some of it off the baby cam: Harper is in the left crib and Reagan on the right. Enjoy!

Of course, baby giggles eventually turned to shrieks, with Reagan not ready to go to sleep. She ended up with Mom and Dad as Harper snuggled up with her wubbanub and fell asleep. Emerie slept the entire night in her crib too!

First Birthday Shenanigans

Prep prep prep! The last week was filled with getting ready for the big #1 birthday party, including food, decorations, and outfit shopping (of course).

It is a must to celebrate survival of the first year with triplets (parents AND babies), although a nice nap might have been equally amazing 🙂

We decided to make our own smash cakes and food trays for the party. Grandma Sue created fancy vegetable pizzas, veggie platters, and her delicious spinach dip; William created flower jello molds in the girls’ colors, and we bought all the fixings for sandwiches. Family arrived from out of town and out of state to celebrate with us, as well as a bunch of friends!

It was great to have cousins Jaren, Chatum and Gabe at the party, as well as Uncle Jeff and Aunt Tami, Uncle William and Aunt Sheryl, Grandma Sue and Papa Cliff. It was a bit chaotic to say the least, but great to have extended family around for the occasion.

The girls enjoyed all the extra attention over the weekend, and had a ton of playtime with both the boys and their younger friends. It was great to see our twin friends attend, as well as the valley triplets and all our non multiple friends (yes we love all of you too!!).

Like a rockstar, Tami double fed the girls during the party. I’m pretty sure Harper has a new BFF now.

Family shot!

The day turned out great; very tiring but worth it! Harper woke up incredibly early (she was ready to party?) and Emerie and Reagan followed a bit later; we stalled everyone until about 11:30 and then loaded them up for a driving nap, to ensure they slept at least a bit beforehand. Sue, Jeff, Gabe and I took over the decorations and food and set up and Megan, Alyssa, and Janelle helped us get everything ready.

The girls wore their party dresses with sweaters and tights. The headbands were accepted by Harper and Reagan; Emerie was not having it and kept pulling it down over her face.

Love this picture of Paris and the girls!

There were a TON of kids everywhere, ranging from about four months old to ten. The turnout was wonderful! I’m glad Craig convinced us to rent a big space; I think we used every inch of it.

I was expecting some massive kid meltdowns…I mean it’s a first birthday party full of tiny minions, but everyone seemed pretty good! The foam blocks were quite the hit, with major activity in the middle of the room.

The cake smash went as expected, with Harper a bit more apprehensive and Emerie and Reagan more enthusiastic. After a few minutes they got into it! Thank you to Doug Olson Photography for some fantastics pictures to memorialize the occasion!!

One of my favorite shots. Look at Harper haha

Eventually the icing colors ended up on everyone. Reagan is probably the only one that actually ate any of the cake, but everyone sufficiently sugared up. They also received a unplanned bath in the rec center kitchen.

It was a great day celebrating the girls’ year milestone and sharing it with so many friends! We appreciate all the love and support of everyone who came (and the diapers!!!), and look forward to our kiddos all growing up around each other. The last year has been quite a wild ride, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

More great shots by Doug. So much cake 🙂

Baby racing? Yes please

Well folks, as promised. Baby racing at its finest!

Clearly my children only see a cell phone…or a dog toy…as incentive to crawl. They will not go toward toys and especially not toward their parents!

This household has gone from only two babies even rolling several weeks ago to three crawlers and one feet balancer with no hands. That moved quick!

Mobility Level: Crawling

And just like that, we have babies on the move.

As predicted, Reagan is the first crawler. Emerie followed about 24 hours later over the weekend. Harper is sticking to her backwards crawl, but pulling up on everything and briefly standing without hands. She’s done a couple paces forward but doesn’t like it.

It might seem a little late to some people since their birthday is in two weeks. Realistically, their adjusted age compensates for this, meaning the crawling started at about 9.5 months developmentally.

Here is Reagan giving forward crawling a try!

She is getting pretty good and it and going from a laying to sitting to standing position. She also refuses to settle in her crib now because there is too much adventure to be had.. she likes to peek over the side of the crib and talk to her sisters.

Emerie is not quite as graceful, but can get from A to B so it works! She is constantly exploring her crib and standing up to chew on the side, you know, with her two bottom teeth…she is also on a mission to explore everything.

Emerie checking out the tv

Harper is really great and pulling herself up to a standing position. A little too good if you ask me.

Harper checking out the lay of the land

She isn’t thrilled to crawl forward yet, but has done a pace or two.

Everyone is obsessed with playing on the piano and getting there by themselves. They push each other over on it, crawl under it, and will lean down to pick up toys while holding onto it.

The house is in definite need of final baby proofing. We might attempt that this weekend! The plan is to create a baby prison in the living room, encompassing the jumpers and hearth area and full of toys. The family room downstairs just needs a little more cleaning out to be mostly kid proofed; we also have to mount the TV higher and on the wall. Overall that room is almost ready for TODDLERS!

I’m curious how fast we will have walkers…and a little terrified.

On an unrelated note, I bought shoes for the girls for the first time. First size guess was a bit small, so I repurchased them bigger and they are so cute (yes also impractical at the pre walking age!), but I couldn’t help it when their colors were available.

Momma vs Dada

The house is getting more vocal! Harper and Emerie are on Team Craig and like to yell, or quietly whisper, dadadadada…

I think they win for first ones saying it…BUT….

Reagan is on Team Becca and the first to pronounce the “m” sound and say Momma this week!

Harper saying dadada….she’s getting really good at it!

We are also starting the baby wrestling this month.

Harper and Reagan

Everyone is starting to be on the move in one way or another. Em has figured out she can get out of tummy time by rolling… Every. Single. Time!

Reagan now does this cute little shoulder roll when she is happy. It usually pairs with a happy giggle and big smile.

I now can’t turn my back without someone rolling over or moving spots. They aren’t quite crawling yet, but Reagan is super close. Even Harper, who is not a fan of exerting herself unless forced, is pulling herself back to sit right positions and turning onto her stomach, much to her dismay.

This started as sit time…

We broke out the activity table they received from Christmas and all three think it is about as cool as the ceiling fan! In fact, when one is playing on it (assisted by parent), the other two are insanely jealous and let us know it should be their turn ASAP!

Reagan keeps turning onto her tummy and playing and swinging her feet around. I think she will be our first crawler, but the other two won’t be far behind. Here Emerie is doing the butt wiggle. She is trying really hard to beat Reagan to it!

Okay one more video…not only are the girls talking, or should I say babbling, more, but they are also interacting with each other. The secret baby language is not too far away!

So yes, there is a lot going on this month in the Douglas household. And it’s about to get even wilder!

Who is the most…?

Sleepy Reagan unswaddled!

I saw this on Facebook earlier this fall and thought it would be fun. I started filling this post out a couple months ago and I can already see some of the answers have shifted around. As I alluded to in my last post, the girls seem to have flip flopped a little on several personality traits. For example, Harper is no longer our rock sleeper…thankfully Reagan has taken that on and now loves to stretch out and sleep in her crib, pacifier and all.

Random family photo from when I started this post originally. They are so tiny!

So here we go!

Who’s the most stubborn? Emerie when she’s mad, Harper when she’s tired and doesn’t want to be in her crib.

Who’s the most laid back? Harper for the first few months, now that teething has slowed down it’s Reagan.

Who has the worst temper? Emerie!!

Who’s more likely to share? All of them right now, but they also all steal each other toys.

Who eats the most? Reagan. She’ll eat 2 full bottles at bedtime, sometimes more!

Who is the picky eater? For baby food, Reagan or Harper; both sometimes believe we are poisoning them. For bottles, lately Emerie has been the most fidgety.

Who can sleep the longest? Harper up until last month. Now it’s Reagan!

Who’s the loudest? It depends. Emerie has the highest pitched shriek, but Harper loves to randomly yell and exercise her voice.

Who is the shyest? Reagan

Who has the attitude? All of them lol…although Emerie probably takes the cake on this one.

Who needs the most reassurance? Emerie in general, Reagan when going thru a developmental leap.

Harper helping Mom sort through new clothes

Who is the most dramatic? Emerie for sure. She’s already starting her terrible twos lol

Who’s the clingiest? Emerie is when she is fussy or at bedtime, Reagan when I first get home from work and she demands snuggles. Harper occasionally at bedtime but she’s getting better at self soothing.

Who’s the sneakiest? Emerie. I think she’s going to be the bandleader.

Who giggles the most? Right now all of them on different things. Reagan is the hardest to get to crack a smile, while Harper will give you a big grin pretty easily. Em loves to smile.

Who dislikes tummy time the most? Who likes it the best? Harper definitely dislikes it the most! She will lay there and scream. Emerie dislikes it too but will immediately roll out of it. Reagan is not a fan but will cooperate for a few minutes.

Who enjoys jumping the most? If I have to choose one baby, I think it would be Emerie. When she’s excited to be in the bouncer, she is jumping to the heavens and giggling.

Big girls sitting up!

Who rolls over the most? Lately Emerie rolls the most, but generally that is due to her hatred of tummy time. Otherwise it is Reagan!

Who is the best sitter? Reagan is our strongest kiddo and can sit up really well!

Who holds their bottle the best? No one is great at it yet, but everyone is progressing along nicely.

I plan to fill this out again later this summer and see how different it is once the girls are mobile and better at voicing their opinions.
